If you are d*mned interested in writing with us, you’ll need to pitch a story via email. Please read this page in detail before submitting a pitch.

What We Do Want

  • Verifiable, evergreen, interesting non-fiction
  • Obscure stories rather than well-known
  • Stories that deserve to be long-form, without padding

What We Don’t Want

  • Fiction
  • News
  • Opinion
  • Personal anecdotes
  • Pseudoscience

Pitch Requirements

  • Include a short 2-3 sentence synopsis of the story
  • Tell us what part of the story you intend to use as the teaser
  • Tell us what event(s) or fact(s) would serve as the climax
  • How will you end the story?
  • Include links to at least 2 reliable sources for your story
  • Use the subject line “Story pitch”, nothing more, nothing less

Please Do Not Include

  • Essays you’ve written for school
  • Anything AI-generated
  • The full text of the article you are pitching

Once assembled, send that email to pitch@damninteresting.com. If the topic has good potential, and you seem to be a good fit, we’ll get back to you with more information on how to proceed.

F.A.Q.

How much do you pay?

Our current rate for freelance long-form articles is $400, though this is negotiable.

Do you accept articles that have been previously published elsewhere?

“Never” is a strong word, but very probably no.

I’ve already written the article, can I just send you the whole thing?

No. Please send the above listed requirements first, and we’ll reach out if we want to see the full text.

Can I submit an article about a product or business?

If it is an interesting, non-promotional story about a product or business that you are NOT affiliated with, we’ll consider it. If your article is a thinly veiled advertisement, we definitely don’t want it.

Can I be more than a mere freelancer?

If you successfully publish one or more articles with us, and you wish to become more involved, just let us know. You might be a good fit as a Contributing Editor, with more responsibility, influence, and compensation.
